As students ease their way back into the academic mindset, we caught up with six CCPA students to hear their thoughts on getting back into the swing at SMU, CCPA and Dallas.
CCPA Students Fared Well in Week One
Grant Youngkin is a junior who transferred to SMU from Rice this semester. He explained that getting back into the swing of school work has been hard to balance with daily basketball practice, but he is excited to see what Dallas has to offer. Although Youngkin misses his dogs and family, he is most excited for the endless dinners at Mi Cocina.
Bree Miller is a sophomore CCPA major with double minors in History and Law and Legal Reasoning. Although she wasn’t sure what CCPA track to head down, Dr. Kirk helped her decide on Organizational Communication while she participated in Hilltop-On-The-Hill in Washington, D.C. Miller missed walking the Katy Trail with her friends and is excited to be back in Dallas.
CCPA Seniors Take on their Last Year
As a double major in CCPA and Public Relations, Alex Davis wants to take as many classes as she can this year to grow as an intellectual. After graduation, Davis plans to work on the Hill in D.C. for a Member of Congress.
Emma Flores is a senior who just rounded out her summer at The Barber Shop Marketing agency as a media intern. She decided to major in CCPA because of the experience the professors bring to the program and their commitment to helping students grow. Flores is eager to take on three CCPA classes this semester and apply the classroom knowledge to her PR internship outside of class.
Julia Tognotti, one of CCPA’s seniors, shared how her favorite part about being back at school is getting to do all her favorite Dallas activities such as riding her bike on the Katy Trail, attending Boulevards and brunching with friends! Her favorite spots are Taverna and Le Bilboquet.
Cameron Gurley says that her first week back at school was a wake-up call because she is balancing a full class schedule with her internship at Droese PR. Gurley is eager to take more classes that are specific to her career path. She anticipates that her Principles of Digital Communication class will be one of her favorites.
Gurley, Davis and Tognotti expressed how their first week made them realize how much they are going to miss SMU after they graduate.
