Dallas Afterschool is the only agency in North Texas improving the quality of afterschool and summer programs in our community. Our vision is that all children will have access to high quality afterschool and summer programs that promote their intellectual, emotional and creative development. We inform, train, support and evaluate afterschool sites that serve low-income children and are committed to building the quality of their programs. We currently work with 1,000 professionals at 180 afterschool sites, collectively serving more than 14,000 K-12th grade students from underserved areas of Dallas.
The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for raising awareness and support for Dallas Afterschool. This individual will help create and strengthen organizational relationships with key stakeholders through the effective delivery of Dallas Afterschool’s communications plan, fundraising efforts, and key events.
Key Responsibilities include:
q Provide event coordination and support for all Dallas Afterschool fundraising and awareness events.
q Recruit and supervise volunteers.
q Represent Dallas Afterschool and its initiative to stakeholders and interested parties, as appropriate.
q Assist the VP of Development in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and sponsors.
q Create tailored communications (printed and digital) for all stakeholder groups, including donors, partners, volunteers, and the public at large.
q Maintain a communications calendar to assist in overall strategic planning for the agency
q Work with the VP of Development to create marketing collateral – brochures, annual reports, event programs, etc.
q Support the management of content and appearance of the Dallas Afterschool website to ensure current, engaging materials at all times.
q Manage social media communications and campaigns, expanding our reach online.
q Collect client impact stories and testimonials of the value of Dallas Afterschool and quality out of school time programming.
q Seek out and arrange media opportunities and event coverage.
q Assist VP of Development in creation of a donor society and other planned recognition strategies
|q Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
q Excellent ability to communicate tone through the written word.
q Strong project management skills, analytical skills, creativity and resourcefulness in formation of approaches to increased brand awareness and appreciation.
q Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, various content management systems, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
q Working knowledge of best practices in fundraising and nonprofit management.
q Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field (equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree).
q Minimum of one year professional experience in communications and/or fundraising.
q Passion for the importance of quality afterschool and summer programs.
