Public Relations is not just a major at SMU. CCPA takes Public Relations out into the field and helps you prepare for the real world with SMU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Whether you are in your first semester of CCPA or your last semester, you should join PRSSA today.

Interest Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10

A special Interest Meeting is set for 6p Tuesday, September 10 In Umphrey Lee Center Rm. 241

All students from Meadows communication divisions are invited to attend and learn more about PRSSA. Onhand will be leaders of SMU PRSSA, each responsible for a different aspect of the chapter.

This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about SMU PRSSA and get involved with the group. You can join SMU PRSSA now.

Why Join PRSSA?

In PRSSA, you will attend events throughout the semester that help you take Public Relations beyond the classroom. Are you not a public relations major? No problem. PRSSA also helps you grow your network, improve your interview skills, and learn what qualities make you stand out from the crowd. Join now.

PRSSA also provides young students with the chance to show their leadership skills early on in their college career. With executive positions open to all members, it is easy to jump right in and get involved. Monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month. In addition, most of the networking and programming events will take place on Tuesday nights. For $65 per school year, PRSSA provides students with access to events that truly utilize SMU’s connections throughout north Texas. Members of PRSSA also have access to events for PRSA, the Public Relations Society of America, which include Public Relations professionals from across the United States.

Senior Karna Small took advantage of her PRSSA membership over summer. “I got to attend a PRSA Dallas event in July that provided me with two hours’ worth of advice about how PR teams can get a media outlet’s attention and how to stand out in an email inbox. That night, I saw the guest speaker from the event on my TV screen reporting the news,” she says.

Last year, PRSSA members heard from local public relations pros from Toyota, SunWest and Frito, participated in a resume workshop, a Q&A with field professionals and a free headshot for your LinkedIn page. Students also attended a Public Relations and Advertising Career Fair that included representatives from 7-Eleven, AT&T, the Richards Group, LDWW, RocketBrand, to name a few.
