We’re back! Remember us? The CCPA fall Fellows Team has added a few new faces to the fun. We are looking forward to a great semester, and this group is ready and eager to provide you with all your communication needs. Please welcome Avery Cooper, Caroline Kester, and Charlotte Friend.
Avery is a senior pursuing a triple major in Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Fashion Media and Journalism with a minor in Psychology. She started her journey as an SMU CCPA Fellow over the summer alongside her good friend, Abba Yaney, and will continue her journey throughout her senior year.
Avery grew up in Frisco, Texas; moved to south Florida her sophomore year of high school and attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida; and, then she moved back to Dallas upon high school graduation to attend SMU. She is an SMU legacy, as her grandfather, mother, and brother all attended SMU, as well.
Additionally, Avery is Vice President of Programming for SMU’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter. She is Membership Vice President of her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta (Alpha Xi chapter), sits on the executive board of SMU Hillel, a club for SMU’s Jewish community, and writes for the Daily Campus, SMU’s student-run digital newspaper.
Currently, she works as a freelance reporter for the Texas Jewish Post, a local newspaper serving the North Texas Jewish Community weekly since 1947. She often writes stories about holidays, philanthropic opportunities, distinguished Jewish citizens in the community, and upcoming events.
Over the summer, she worked as an Engagement Intern at Innovent, a creative brand engagement and event marketing agency in Dallas. Her past work experience includes being an Editorial Intern at PaperCity Magazine – Dallas, being the Social Media Marketing Manager at Lute Riley Honda of Richardson and being an Event Planning Coordinator for a start-up agency in Dallas.
After graduating from SMU, Avery plans to remain in Dallas for a few years working in public relations. Her dream is to work in public relations for AT&T, Southwest Airlines, or TruePoint Communications. Then, she hopes to move abroad – to wherever the wind, and her career, take her. Her dream career is to become a travel writer, traveling the globe and writing about the culture, people, and history she experiences. One day, she plans to publish her own poetry collection and a novel or two.
In her free time, Avery enjoys playing with her two rescue kittens, Scarlet and Hartley, traveling, reading, and doing pilates. She grew up a competitive dancer and enjoys staying active.
Avery is thrilled to be an SMU CCPA Fellow this year. “I love being able to support the CCPA department while learning on the job and doing the work I love,” she said. You can follow Avery’s professional career on LinkedIn.
We’re glad to have you return to the fall CCPA Fellows team, Avery.
